How to create an Outlook 2016 profile without an email account

| 2018-02-21

After Office 365 (Office 2016) has been installed, you will be prompted to configure an email account. Not everyone wants to use Outlook as their email client or only want to use it to maintain their contact and calendar data. Unlike earlier versions of Outlook, the only way to eliminate the constant prompt to configure an email account is via the following procedure.

With Outlook closed, press the Windows key to enter the following command in the <Run> box Outlook.exe /PIM NoEmail (be sure to include all spaces exactly as shown, otherwise the process will fail)

This will create an empty Outlook profile with no email account configured with an empty PST file where the default contact/calendar folders will be stored. This data will be local to the machine where this profile is created and cannot be sync’d across devices without the use of 3rd party sync software like CompanionLink.

Should you wish to sync the contact/calendar data with other devices without the use of a 3rd party sync program, see the instructions for

This same process can also be used to create a new empty profile with a unique name but one difference would be if the profile name you want to create contains spaces (not suggested). In this case, the profile name needs to be surrounded by double-quotes as shown below
