When people configure Outlook, the first screen that is presented in the email account configuration process is the “Auto-Discover” window where you simply need to enter your email address and password which then will be used by Outlook to auto-discover your email settings and configure the email account. When this doesn’t involve an Outlook.com or a full Exchange account, Outlook will configure the email account using the IMAP protocol if the email service provider supports it.
Unfortunately for some, this is both unexpected and undesired since the desired configuration was to have the account be configured using the POP3 protocol as was the case on their previous version of Outlook. The question then becomes “How do I can convert my Imap account into a POP3 account?” The technically correct answer is that you can’t convert the account, it must be re-added to the profile and configured manually.
