There are times when splitting a Contact Group (Distribution List) is required such as number of members is too large or desire to split the members along different interest lines.
There is no way within Outlook to split an existing Contact Group in smaller segments.
The approach to use to split the group would be as follows
- open the contact folder in which the contact group resides
- select the group by single clicking on it so that it does not open
- right-click on the selected contact group –>select <Move> –> select <Copy To folder> –> select the contact folder in which the original contact group resides
- the above step will create a duplicate Contact Group in the folder with the same name
- rename the copied Contact Group by opening it and changing its name
To split the Contact Group, each one must be opened separately at which point, the contacts you no longer wish to be a member of that particular group need to be removed. When done, save the updated Contact Group
